I never get telemarketing calls for that type of news polls. And neither does my mother, because if a news presenter says something like "78% of the population say the next Olympic Games should be held in the Netherlands", my mother usually says, with an air of surprize, "How can they know that? They did not ask ME!"

Hmm, for some reason WP is not emailing me comments.

I can't imagine actually asking "why aren't you interested" - that seems like it crosses some kind of line.

The only "telemarketing" calls I like are when I get news polls from ABC, Fox, etc. I answer those - sometimes exaggerating for effect - with gusto!

To me, telemarketing seems like the worst job that you could have. You know that many people that you call will be disturbed and irritated, and if you didn't know, the people that you call will let you know in the most clear terms.

If I told someone that I am not interested, and they start asking questions like "May I ask you why are not interested?" or "What product are you currently using?" I simply tell them that I don't feel like answering those questions and add something like "I am not interested in this, and therefore I am ending this conversation now. Have a nice day." And hang up. Unless, I am bored and have nothing to do. Then, I let them ask every question they like, but I don't give personal information anymore, like my age, or whether I have a mortgage, or which newspapers I read. Or I start to ask the same questions back. (Maybe it is not nice of me to start a long conversation with telemarketers that are probably paid by call or by succesful call, but I'll "let them off the phone" immediately, if they want)
I did not know that some telemarketers are not allowed to let the person off the phone before they said 'no' three times. But that does not matter, because I do know that I do not need anyones permission to hang up.

You should come to visit the poultry museum in Barneveld, Netherlands.</a></abbr></em>
